Amazon wants to introduce payments by hand
The American giant is talking more and more seriously about a completely new type of payment, thanks to which we will not have to carry anything but our own hand - does it really have a chance to prove itself?
Amazon is currently creating special terminals for stationary stores where customers will be able to combine credit card information with their hands to pay later without having to carry a wallet, documents or smartphone. The company wants such payment systems to appear in cafes, pubs and other establishments, where crowds of people, often accustomed to their favorite places, come in daily. And although at first glance everything is to make our lives easier, it should be remembered that technologically giants do not really do anything for free.
And what's up this time? For the same thing as usual, i.e. even greater access to our data, on which Amazon can simply earn good money. All you have to do is look at his previous financial experiments, i.e. automatic stores where you don't have to stop at the checkout to pay or pay your Amazon Pay digital wallet with online non-Amazon sellers - Jeff Bezos himself convinces his management that it's an amazing important issue.
Either way, the plans for the new terminals are still at an early stage and, according to The Wall Street Journal, citing its sources, Amazon is to conduct talks with both Visa and Mastercard. Moreover, the company was also to talk to credit card companies such as JPMorgan Chase & Co., Wells Fargo & Co. and Synchrony Financial, who were to express interest in providing such service to their clients. However, this does not change the fact that, according to market giants, bank giants are still wondering whether technological giants like Amazon want to be their partners or competitors.
However, the fear of being excluded from possibly popular services is stronger, so Amazon will surely have no trouble finding anyone. Either way, there is still a long way to go, and the biggest problem seems to be to protect customers from fraudsters who may want to use the new system. The method of assigning the card to your hand is also important (will it take place in the store, or maybe the bank's headquarters, or maybe Amazon has another idea?) And the way of convincing clients to give the company even more of their privacy, because as the giant knows he will keep information on our purchases with him, which gives him a lot of scope to show off. In short, we will look at the matter with interest.
We will see what kind of payment methods we are going to see in the next few years.
