Harmony OS: Huawei’s operating system is almost here!
Some time ago we learned in the face of a trade war with the United States that the Chinese group decided to insure against the loss of the Android license and created its own mobile operating system.
You already have read many times about Huawei's problems since the end of last year, so we will not repeat everything, but let us remind you briefly that as a result of many different events, the company hit the US blacklist, which caused many American companies to end cooperation with it. Eventually, Donald Trump withdrew his decision, but the Chinese company, fearing similar situations in the future, decided to have their own alternative to the Android operating system.
Some time ago, potential names of this solution began to appear on the network, such as HongMeng OS, Ark OS and Oak OS, but finally the system hit the market as Harmony OS. Where did this idea come from, if it did not appear in any leaks? The situation was explained by Huawei’s CEO Yu Chengdong:"HongMeng in Chinese is something like open the earth, so the closest English equivalent is Genesis, or the Beginning. However, it's too difficult to pronounce Hongmeng in Chinese, that’s why we called it “Harmony” to make more world peace."
Interestingly, the company declared that they did not want to use its system at all, unless forced to do so - moreover, some Huawei officials claimed before the presentation that it was not even dedicated to smartphones.
And what does it really look like? Harmony OS is an open-source system that can power both smartphones and many other devices, i.e. Intelligent Speakers, Computers, Smartwatches, Wireless Headphones, Cars or Tablets, which was confirmed at the disclosure conference. According to Yu Chengdong, it is a system for every possible scenario, which supports every possible amount of RAM and is compatible with HTML5, Linux and Android applications, although these issues still need to be refined.
What's more, Huawei believes that if it wanted to, Harmony OS could be a real alternative to Android, but for now they will not test it and will stay with the solution from Google. However, this does not change the fact that the company plans to have a smartphone with this OS on board and it will be one of the representatives of the Honor family, and the TV equipped with it, i.e. Honor Vision, has already debuted on the market. The manufacturer also emphasizes its dedication to security issues, ensuring that Harmony OS boasts the highest level of security among operating systems.
As we mentioned above, Donald Trump has already withdrew his decision. However, thanks to the situation happened by the United States to Huawei, they have discovered a new path and created an OS for their future projects.
