How to take a screenshot on your Mac!
Taking and sharing screenshots is now an indispensable part of our lives. Sometimes you want to send a screenshot to a friend and sometimes to your project partner. So how do we do this on MacOS?
The latest versions of MacOS (Mojave and Catalina) come with an application that saves your screenshots as .PNG files. Just press Shift-Command (⌘) -5 to get a command bar at the bottom of the screen.
The first three buttons on the left allow you to select a screenshot of the entire screen, a particular window, or outlines of the screen. The next two buttons allow you to start video recording of all or part of your screen. The "Options" button allows you to instantly choose where you want to save your screenshot on your Mac, set a delay of 5 or 10 seconds if you wish, and show or hide your cursor. When you're ready, just click the "Capture" button on the right end of the command bar.
If you are in a hurry and don't want to mess with the command bar (or if you haven't upgraded to Mojave or Catalina) you can still save screenshots to your desktop.
Press Shift-Command-3 to take a screenshot of the entire screen.
Press Shift-Command-4 to take a screenshot of part of the screen, and then drag the cursor to draw the area you want to drag
If you want to capture a particular window, press Shift-Command-4. Press the spacebar. The cursor will turn into a camera. Hover the cursor over the window you want to capture until highlighted and click.
It's that simple. I usually use the combination of Shift-Command (⌘) and 4 to quickly select and register. Then I can send it where I want it. I don't know how to do with Windows right now, but it's easy to take a screenshot on MacOS operating systems.
