The aerospace industry has a tragic impact on pollution and the climate of our planet. That is why it is in this industry that the largest ecological revolution will take place in the near future. Here is the beginning.

Engineers from Airbus are intensively working on the construction of the first-ever passenger electric airplane. The company has just presented the concept of an aircraft with a futuristic look that evokes prey birds. It may seem that the designers this time took a fantasy, but nothing more wrong.

In its work on the air vehicles of the future, the company uses the latest acquired techniques. This is where advanced computational simulations are used, using the world's fastest supercomputers. Airbus has recently announced that it intends to include even quantum computers in its work. Thanks to them, they will create unusually efficient, low-cost, less-dangerous and environmentally friendly passenger planes.

The latest concept assumes the construction of the first aircraft, which will be able to take up to 100 people on its board. At the beginning, its range will be very limited, because the most important aspect of this type of machine is and will be the battery system. As we all know, the subject of battery capacity is the biggest bane of our world. Every now and then new electronic devices come out, and the batteries used in them are enough for just one day of use.

The Bird of Prey project can therefore be based on the use of cryogenic hydrogen fuel. In such installations, the chemical energy of hydrogen is converted into electricity through a group of fuel cells that drive an ultra-efficient electric drive system. Low temperature requirements of the hydrogen system also provides the possibility of using superconductivity or lossless energy transmission in motor drive systems, as in eg magnetic resonance.

The efficiency of the entire electric propulsion system will be provided by specially designed wings and winglets crowning them. Engineers from Airbus intend to equip the aircraft with not one, but five winglets. Their task will be to better control the flow of air, reduce resistance and, thereby, reduce the consumption of electricity. The future aircraft will also be equipped with four electric rotors.

For now, the company did not reveal when it intends to show the world its first electric aircraft, but we can expect that it will be the 2020s. NASA, which has been developing its electric aircraft projects for several years, will be a huge support for the space industry. The technologies and patents developed by it are to be widely available for the whole world of the aviation industry, so that the long-awaited ecological revolution will take place in it as soon as possible.
